Roth IRA Penalty
During the current ecconomic financial climate lots of people are finding it hard to stay out of debt and are turning to their Roth IRA's for a solution to there money problems. However this may not be the answer to your problems as Roth IRA's have pendalty clauses for early termination this could cost you hundreds and thousands of dollars more than taking out a loan. If you are thinking of stopping your Roth IRA early then you are going to need to find out what the penalties are going to be. Your financial advisor or the company who is controlling your Roth IRA should be able to tell you exactly what the costs will be for early termination of your Roth IRA.
There are exceptions to the rules for Roth IRA's such as first time home buyers are allowed a $10,000 exception once in the lifetime of the policy. If the owner has a disability then the IRS has exceptions but you need to check on this as the rules are always being ammended. If you need it to pay for medical expenses, paying any IRS back taxes, if it is used to pay for college fees for the owner or member of the household, If the IRA holder dies then you will not be penalized. The exceptions to the penalties are always being amended and changed so you will need to check with the controllers of your account such as the financial advisor or financial planner. If you do not have an exception and still want to go ahead you could lose as much as $500 for every $1500 you need.
It takes along time to achieve a good amount of money in your Roth IRA and if you want to terminate the policy early then the penalties which you will probably get will reduce the amount you get back by a lot, so you should think very carefully before turning to your Roth IRA as a source of money. Try getting a loan or second mortgage before you finally decide on choosing your Roth IRA I would only use this as a last desperate source of money. You will also have to realise that if you do finish your Roth IRA early then later on in life when you retire you could regret the decision as you will not have the IRA to fall back on and your ability to live comfortably in your retirement will be severely restricted.
